Bringing it Back to Life

“I want to bring happiness and positive energy back to this space,” says artist Chris Wyllie of his new art installation which includes repurposed lathes from the Opera House on the garage door bays of the former Foley’s service station. Frank Doyle and Brad Cherevaty, owners of The Fifth Element, bought the station adjacent to their restaurant and are still trying to decide the “best course of action” for the property. But pairing with Wyllie will also bring life and vitality to the east side of Broadway. The opportunity to meet the artist and celebrate the installation will be on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 6 – 9 p.m. After the reception, Wyllie will be returning to Los Angeles to finish a big project. When he returns in mid-April, the artist says to be ready to see “great things” in Newport. chriswyllie.com (Photo by Jen Carter)
