Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) of Newport and Bristol County is launching an Instagram contest throughout the month of February as part of national Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM). Nearly one in 10 Rhode Island high schoolers has already experienced physical dating violence.

According to LoveIsRespect.org, approximately one in three teens in the U.S. experiences dating abuse, a statistic that has been linked to abusive relationship patterns in adulthood. WRC is committed to ending the suffering associated with domestic violence, and is encouraging local teens to join in this national month-long awareness campaign by participating in the TDVAM Instagram contest.

Entrants can post a picture or video to Instagram demonstrating positive images of fun dating relationships or friendships centered on the theme “Love is Respect.” To enter, follow @wrc_ nbc, WRC’s official Instagram account, and use the hashtag #TDVAMWRC and tag @wrc_ nbc in the posts. Entries can include photos or videos of people or actions making “hand hearts,” holding hands, or performing a song or skit.

Participants can enter as many times as they wish through the deadline of Feb. 28. The most creative entry will receive a dating package prize. For more information, visit wrcnbc.org.
