Community Barn Dance

In partnership with Common Fence Music and the Newport String Project, Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St., will hold its third annual community barn dance on Sunday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. 401-847- 0675.


DivorceCare, a program to help adults cope with divorce, is a ministry of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 525 Broadway. It meets on Thursdays from 6:30-8 p.m. The topic for Thursday, Feb. 9, is finding out how long it typically takes to recover from the pain of divorce and what helps or hinders the healing process. 401-846-9567.

Newport Music Festival Concert

St. Matthew's Church, 87 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, will host a Newport Music Festival concert on Friday, Feb. 10, from 6-9 p.m. A reception will be followed by music on cello and guitar; the cost is $35. newportmusic.org.

Speaker Series Presentation

Author David Stookey gives a talk on how to climate-proof your personal finances on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St. This community lecture at 7 p.m. will be followed by a discussion and refreshments. All are welcome. 401-847-0675.

Men's Bible Study

On Wednesday mornings from 7:30-8:30 a.m., a small group of men meet at the Seamen's Church Institute, 18 Market Square, to consider, discuss and debate the relevance of the Bible for the 21st century, postmodern man. Warm Up Wednesdays

All are welcome each Wednesday at St. Paul’s Church, 12 Marlborough St., for Warm Up Wednesdays from 1-4 p.m. Hot soup, coffee, tea, cocoa and other refreshments are provided free of charge. Relax in a quiet corner, engage in lively conversation, work on a puzzle or play a board game. 401-846-0966.
