During the period from Monday, Dec. 12, through Friday, Dec. 23, the Newport Police Department responded to 501 calls. Of those, 124 were motor vehicle related; there were 102 motor vehicle violations issued, and 22 accident reports.

Police responded to 7 noise complaints, 6 animal complaints, 27 home/business alarm calls/ checks, 4 calls of vandalism, 1 call of breaking & entering, and 15 calls for suspicious vehicles/ persons/circumstances. They responded to 3 rescue calls, 2 calls for violation of a court order, 2 reports of assaults or threats, 16 reports of harassment/disorderly conduct, 1 weapons report, 1 liquor violation, 4 reports of fraud, 7 reports of larceny, and 14 welfare checks. They transported 3 prisoners and made 10 school security checks. They made 1 funeral/bank escort, 4 private tows, assisted 5 other police departments and 21 other agencies, and conducted 18 holiday business checks.

In addition, 16 arrests were made for the following violations:
