On the coldest day of the year, Dec. 15, Mayor Harry Winthrop (above) picked the winning tickets from the more than 2,100 that were collected during the month-long Broadway Holiday Raffle. Broadway abounded with holiday festivity this year; almost three dozen merchants participated in a raffle with prizes totaling nearly $1,600. More than 2,100 entries vied for the four goodie bags. The Grand Prize winner, Amy Witt, took home $600 in gifts. Her ticket was submitted from Ben’s Chili Dogs. Second place went to Jason Bartwell, whose ticket was from T3 Fitness. Two additional runners-up prizes of nearly $300 each went to Elena Shpynevaa with a ticket from Malt and the Newport Community School with another ticket from T3 Fitness.

Thank you to all patrons who continue to support the merchants along Broadway.

Thank you to all the businesses that provided gift certificates and goods for the holiday raffle: Anchor Steam Tattoo Gallery, Ben’s Chili Dogs, Binge BBQ, Boru Noodles, Caleb & Broad, Closet Revival, Corner Café, Downtown Designs, Dunkin Donuts, Empire Tea & Coffee, Fastnet, Fifth Element, Firehouse Theater, Groom Room, Highhopes, Hungry Monkey, Leo’s Market, Mad Hatter Bakery, Malt, Mission, Newport Bicycle, Norey’s, Pan Handlers, Parlor Bar & Kitchen, Pour Judgement, Salvation Café, Scratch, T3 Fitness, Tavern on Broadway, Tony’s Barbershop, and the Warner Realty Group.

Another thank you goes to the Thompson students who decorated Christmas trees along the street.

Jason Bartwell was the second place winner of the raffle. Brian Rurak, owner of T3 Fitness, had two winners from his studio. Another ticket for a bag of goodies was accepted by Kelsey Dugan and David Viera on behalf of the Newport Community School for their holiday baskets.
