RECENT DEATHS

Alfred A. Anderson, 87, of Newport, passed away Dec. 10, 2016 at the Village House Nursing Home. He was the husband of Anna (Groux) Anderson and the late Jean H. (North) Anderson. He leaves behind his children, Victoria (Anderson) Gollis (Martin) of Newport, Loren (Anderson) Jennings of Coventry, R.I., Sister Barbara (Anderson) Dingwall of Newport, two granddaughters, and eight great-grandchildren. He retired from the Newport School Department after a long career maintaining Newport schools. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Middletown. A reception for friends and family will follow the service at the church. Frederick J. Brannan Jr., 85, of Belmont, Mass. passed away Dec. 7, 2016. He leaves behind his wife, Catherine McDowell Brannan; his children, Jay Brannan (Michele) of Calif., Kara Murphy (Louie) of Newport, and Kerry Brannan of N.Y.; and five grandchildren. Delphine Elizabeth “Liz” (Moore) Davis, 67, of Portsmouth, passed away Dec. 9, 2016 at the Miriam Hospital. She leaves behind her husband, Robert Davis, and son, Kevin Davis (Amanda) of Portsmouth. Evelyn M. (Mello) Jessey, 86, of Middletown, passed away at home on Dec. 10, 2016. She was the wife of the late John J. Jessey. She leaves behind her children, John Jessey Jr. (Susan) of Conn., Donna Jessey of Middletown, Paul Jessey (Karen C. Jessey) of Lincoln, R.I., six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Lucy’s Church, Middletown. Harold “Mac” McCray, 85, of Portsmouth, passed away Dec. 1, 2016 at home. He was the former husband of the late Rose (Ribeiro) McCray and the father of the late Melanie (McCray) Burden. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He leaves behind two children, Joel McCray (Jacqueline) and Cheryl McCray of Newport, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mary Jane Trahan, 91, of Newport, passed away Dec. 4, 2016 at the Village House Nursing Home, Newport. She was wife of the late Raymond Trahan. She leaves behind eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Donations may be made in her name to the Village House Activities Fund, 70 Harrison Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
