Rev. Field to be Ordained

On Saturday, Dec. 10, at 5 p.m., the Right Rev. W. Nicholas Knisely, Bishop of Rhode Island, will ordain the Rev. Rachel Field to the Sacred Order of Priests. The service will take place at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Rd., Portsmouth. A reception will follow in the parish house. 401-846-9700.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration

The Spanish community of St. Joseph’s will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe at the 10 a.m. Mass on Dec. 11. After the Mass, in the church community room there will be a presentation of traditional Latin American foods and dance, including groups from Peru, Colombia, Chile, and Mexico. A Mariachi band will also perform.

‘Blue Christmas’ Worship Service

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 525 Broadway, will hold a "Blue Christmas" worship service on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 4 p.m. to help people deal with the loss of a loved one, a relationship or employment, or the weariness of ill health. All are welcome. 401-846-9567.

St. Columba’s Christmas Tea

On Sunday, Dec. 11, St. Columba’s will hold a Christmas tea. The two seatings will be at 2 and 3 p.m. Tickets, $6-$12, will be available at the door and at the parish office, 55 Vaucluse Ave., Middletown. Following the tea, Christmas goodies and ornaments, candles, paperwhites and more will be available for purchase. 401-847-5571.

An Evening of Taizé Prayer

An Advent Evening of Taizé Prayer will be held on Monday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. A Taizé worship service includes sung and chanted prayers, meditation, periods of silence, and readings. 401-847-6153.

Understanding the Alt-Right Movement

On Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m., the Learning Center of Channing Memorial Church will sponsor a talk on the Alt-Right movement by Professor June S. Speakman of Roger Williams University. She will shed some light on this rising and controversial movement. There will be a question and answer session following the talk, and dessert and decaf will be served. There is a $5 suggested donation. The event will be held in the Parish Hall (behind the sanctuary) of Channing Memorial Church, 135 Pelham St. 401-846-0643.

Knights of Columbus Clothing Drive

The Knights of Columbus will hold a clothing drive for the needy and homeless from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, Thursday, Dec. 15, and Friday, Dec. 16. Coats, jackets, sweaters, hats, scarves, gloves, pants, and shirts are all desired. Donations can be dropped off at the Knights of Columbus Council Hall front entrance, 7 Valley Road, Middletown or call 401- 846-8800.

Choral Concert

St. Mary’s Parish and Youth choirs will perform their annual Advent concert on Sunday, Dec. 18, from 2-3 p.m. at the Newport Art Museum, 76 Bellevue Ave. The concert is free and all are welcome. Contact Cody Mead, director of liturgical music, at 401-847-0475 for more information.

Warm-Up Wednesdays

St. Paul's faith community welcomes all for hot cocoa, tea, coffee and refreshments each Wednesday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. Enjoy lively conversation and fellowship or find a quiet, welcoming space to relax. Enter the front doors at 12 Marlborough St. 401-846-0966.

Open Door: Holiday Edition

Community Connections offers activities and caring support for those experiencing grief. Together the group will address cards, wrap gifts, create memorial ornaments and create a holiday plan that works for you. The support group will meet Wednesday, Dec. 14 and 21, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at Hambly Brick House, 30 Red Cross. These gatherings are free and open to the public.
