RECENT DEATHS

John R. Barboza Jr., 80, passed away Nov. 23, 2016. He served 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He leaves behind his wife, Rose (Freitas) Barboza, seven children, 20 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 10 a.m. at the Portsmouth United Methodist Church. Donations in his memory may be made to the Portsmouth United Methodist Church Discretionary Fund, 2732 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.

Malcolm Warner “Mac” Chrupcala, 75, of Portsmouth, passed away Nov. 26, 2016 at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston. He leaves behind his wife, Nancy, and his daughter, Marielle Caterine. He began his 28-year teaching career as band director in North Kingstown and later joined the Newport School Department. He’s most known for promoting and perpetuating the jazz scene in Rhode Island. Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 1, from 4-8 p.m. at Connors Funeral Home, Portsmouth. His funeral will be Dec. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Church, Newport. Donations may be made to the Go Fund Me “Mac Chrupcala Memorial Fund.”

George Lucien Dion, 98, of Middletown, passed away Nov. 20, 2016 at John Clarke Health Care Center, Middletown. He was the husband of the late Ella (Denault) Dion. He leaves behind his children, Paul Dion (Marie) of Middletown and Claire Toupin (Raymond) of Mass., two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. Services were private.

Clorinda Anna Pagliaro Edick, 84, of Middletown, passed away Nov. 26, 2016 at Sakonnet Bay Senior Living. She was the wife of Robert V. Edick. She leaves behind her children, John Edick (Linda) of Newport, Paul Edick (Linda) of Chicago, and Annette Darling of Middletown, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Lowville, N.Y.

Earl Francis Fenn Jr., 72, of Newport, passed away Nov. 26, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of the late Jo-Ann (Thomas) Fenn. He leaves behind his son, Earl F. Fenn III (Cassandra). Calling hours will be Friday, Dec. 2, from 4-7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Joseph Keeley, 97, of Newport, passed away Nov. 25, 2016. He was the husband of the late Ellen (O'Connor) Keeley. He leaves behind two sons, Michael J. Keeley (Jeanine) of N.C. and Patrick J. Keeley (Marianne) of Middletown, four grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was a career employee of the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as the superintendent of the Broadway Station. His funeral services will be private; a Memorial Mass and celebration of his life will follow at a later date. Eileen J. (Silvia) Raposa, 82, of Portsmouth, passed away Nov. 25, 2016 at Newport Hospital. She leaves behind her husband, Charles A. Raposa Sr.; children, Charles A. Raposa Jr. of Portsmouth, Edward J. Raposa (Cherie) of Portsmouth and Charlene Viera (Arthur) of Mass.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Joan Potter Taft, 92, of Newport and Jamestown, passed away Nov. 22, 2016. She was the wife of the late Royal Claflin “Bud” Taft Jr. She leaves behind her children, Peter Patton of Jamestown, Peryntha Bigwood of Mass., Amy Wood Taft of Jamestown, and Royal Taft (Jackie) of Calif., and 12 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Church, 87 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown.
