Family Movie Night

Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St., will show “The Muppet Christmas Carol” on Friday, Dec. 2, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. All families are welcome and may bring their own snacks or purchase some at the church before the movie. 401-847- 0675.

Ecumenical Christmas Concert

On Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. the three Jamestown churches (Central Baptist, St. Mark’s and St. Matthew’s) will host a Christmas concert at St. Matthew's, 87 Narragansett Ave. Performers will include Ron Brassard, an accomplished pianist; Bart Shatto, who has performed on Broadway; Meagan Moralis, winner of several vocal awards who has performed with Ocean State Theatre Company; and Jason Hervieux, an accomplished concert organist. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the three churches or at the Fair Trade Winds Store in Jamestown. Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the door on the night of the concert. Joint Advent Service of Lessons and Carols

Traditional readings and Advent carols with congregational hymns, sung by the combined choirs of St. John's and Emmanuel churches with the Professional Choristers of The Choir School of Newport County, Sunday, Dec. 4, at 5 p.m. Join in a centuries-old journey from twilight to light as the historic church on the Point begins in near-darkness and progresses in stages to full light along with the music. Directed by Peter Stoltzfus Berton and Waylon Whitley; officiating clergy: The Rev. Dr. Anita Louise Schell and Fr. Nathan J. A. Humphrey, with other area clergy and civic officials participating. Celebrating St. Nicholas

St. Nicholas will make an appearance at the Sunday, Dec. 4, contemporary service in the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church chapel at 10:30 a.m. Children are invited to leave their shoes under the Giving Tree and attend church in their stocking feet hoping to find a small treat from St. Nick at the end of the service. Warm Up Wednesday

St. Paul's Faith Community welcomes all for hot cocoa, tea, coffee and refreshments each each Wednesday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. Enjoy lively conversation and fellowship or find a quiet, welcoming space to relax. Enter the front doors at 12 Marlborough Street, Newport.

Advent Harp Meditation

On Thursday, Dec. 8, at 2 and 7 p.m., St. Mark’s Church, 60 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, will hold its annual Advent Harp Meditation. There is no charge for this hour-long experience. A reception will follow each performance in the downstairs hall. 401-423-1421.

Priest to be Ordained

On Saturday, Dec. 10, at 5 p.m., the Right Rev. W. Nicholas Knisely, Bishop of Rhode Island, will ordain the Rev. Rachel Field to the Sacred Order of Priests on behalf of the Right Rev. Santosh Marray, Bishop of Easton. All are invited to share in this celebration. The service will take place at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Rd., Portsmouth. St. Columba’s Christmas Tea

On Sunday, Dec. 11, St. Columba’s will hold a Christmas tea. The two seatings will be at 2 and 3 p.m. Tickets, $6-$12, will be available at the door and at the parish office, 55 Vaucluse Ave., Middletown. An Evening of Taizé Prayer

An Advent Evening of Taizé Prayer will be held on Monday, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. A Taizé worship service, derived from the Taizé monastic community located in Taizé, France, involves sung and chanted prayers, meditation, periods of silence, liturgical readings, and the use of icons and candlelight. The evening is geared for high school-aged youth and adults. 401-847-6153.
