Hat and Mitten Drive

St. Mary’s and St. Augustin’s Catholic churches are sponsoring a hat and mitten drive throughout November for children from kindergarten through fourth grade attending the Pell School. St. Mary’s: 401-847-0475. St. Augustin’s: 401- 847-0518.

Coat Drive

Coats will be collected and given away on Friday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., St. Paul’s, 12 Marlborough St. 401-846-0966.

Holocaust Survivor Speaks

Hear Irmentraud Fleissig (Maria Durfee) share her testimony as a survivor of the Holocaust under Hitler in Austria and the story of how she learned to forgive. The talk will take place at Portsmouth United Methodist Church, 2732 East Main Road, Portsmouth, on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Advent Wreath Making

All are invited to make an Advent wreath for your home on Sunday, Nov. 27, from 9:15-10:15 a.m., at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Religion and Science Talk

A talk, "Religion and Science: Beyond Cavemen Riding Dinosaurs," will be given by Dr. Jennifer Kreft Pearce, assistant professor of physics, Roger Williams University on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Channing Church parish hall, 135 Pelham St. Questions and answers and a discussion will follow. Gifts of Advent

The Women’s Spirituality Ministry of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church presents a candlelight retreat to reflect on the “Gifts of Advent,” Thursday, Dec. 1, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Suggested donation is $10. Ecumenical Christmas Concert

On Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. the three Jamestown churches (Central Baptist, St. Mark’s and St. Matthew’s) will host a Christmas concert at St. Matthew's, 87 Narragansett Ave. Performers will include Ron Brassard, an accomplished pianist; Bart Shatto, who has performed on Broadway, including the lead role of Jean Valjean in "Les Miserables"; Meagan Moralis, winner of several vocal awards who has performed with Ocean State Theatre Company; and Jason Hervieux, an accomplished concert organist. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the three churches or at the Fair Trade Winds Store in Jamestown. Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the door on the night of the concert. Proceeds will go toward a shared emergency assistance fund for Jamestown residents. 401-423-1762.

Civic Chorale Concert

On Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. the Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra will present Bach's Christmas Oratorio (sung in English) with featured soloists. The performance will take place at St. Joseph's Church, 5 Mann Ave. Admission ranges from $10-$30. 401-521- 5670, ricco.org.

St. Columba’s Christmas Tea

On Sunday, Dec. 11, St. Columba’s will hold a Christmas tea. The two seatings will be at 2 and 3 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door and at the parish office, 55 Vaucluse Ave. in Middletown. Following the tea, Christmas goodies and ornaments, candles, paper-whites and more are available for purchase. 401-847-5571.
