Thanksgiving Eve Service

Forty-two years ago, Rabbi Mark Jagolinzer began the tradition of hosting an islandwide interfaith service of gratitude the Wednesday preceding the Thanksgiving holiday. To honor the meaningful tradition started by Rabbi Jagolinzer, Cantor Fred Sheff and the Congregation of Temple Shalom invite the Aquidneck Island community to participate in an interfaith service of Thanksgiving at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at the temple, 223 Valley Road, Middletown. Participation of many clergy and choirs from throughout the island will bring the community together in thanksgiving and praise.


DivorceCare, a program to help adults cope with divorce, is a ministry of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 525 Broadway. It meets on Thursdays from 6:30-8 p.m. The topic for Thursday, Nov. 17, is reconciliation. 401-846-9567.

Warm Up Wednesdays

The community is invited to St. Paul’s Church, 12 Marlborough St., for Warm Up Wednesdays from 1-4 p.m. Hot soup, hot chocolate, coffee, tea and other refreshments will be served. The next Warm Up Wednesday is Nov. 30, note it will not be held on Nov. 23. 401-846- 0966.

Lasagna Dinner Preview Night & Holiday Fair

Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St., will hold its lasagna dinner and holiday fair preview night on Friday, Nov. 18, from 5-8 p.m. The holiday fair will be on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be local crafters, a silent auction, bake sale, children's activities, and magic. 401-847-0675.

Holy Cross Craft Fair

The Church of the Holy Cross will hold its craft fair on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. offering jewelry, candles, Christmas items, knitted and sewn items, baked goods and more. The church is located at 1439 West Main Road, Middletown. 401-846-7076.

UCC Holiday Bazaar

On Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., the United Congregational Church, 524 Valley Road, Middletown, will hold its holiday bazaar. It will include toys, books, jewelry, lunch, crafts, baked items, raffles and more. 401-849-5444.

Free Thanksgiving Meal

Portsmouth United Methodist Church, 2372 East Main Road, will hold a free Thanksgiving community meal on Thursday, Nov. 24, from noon-3 p.m. There will be plenty of food, hospitality and music. 401- 423-4005.

Religion and Science Talk

A talk, "Religion and Science: Beyond Cavemen Riding Dinosaurs," will be given by Dr. Jennifer Kreft Pearce, assistant professor of physics, Roger Williams University on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Channing Church Parish Hall, 135 Pelham St. The talk is sponsored by the Learning Center of Channing Church. Hat and Mitten Drive

St. Mary’s and St. Augustin’s Catholic churches are sponsoring a hat and mitten drive throughout November for children from kindergarten through 4th grade attending the Pell School. St. Mary’s: 401-847-0475. St. Augustin’s: 401- 847-0518.
