All are welcome to attend DivorceCare, a ministry of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 525 Broadway, which meets on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. The topic for Thursday, Oct. 27, is the effects of divorce on children. 401-846-9567.

Fall Festival

Portsmouth United Methodist Church, 2732 East Main Road, will hold its fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. It will include a bakery table and silent auction. 401-683-4005.

Bishop Knisely to Speak

On Sunday, Oct. 30, Bishop Nicholas Knisely will preach at Emmanuel Church’s 8 and 10 a.m. services.

‘A Twelve Step Ladder to Freedom’

On Sunday, Oct. 30, at Trinity Church, Queen Anne Square, the Rev. Alan Neale will present the sixth program in a series discussing Christian Scripture and AA's Twelve Steps. The discussion is entitled, “Free Each Day: Steps 11 and 12.” The program will be held in Honyman Hall from 9-9:45 a.m., coffee will be served and all are welcome to attend. 401-846-0660.

Candlelight Ceremony

Channing Memorial Church and its new minister, Rev. Bill Zelazny, will host a non-denominational “Remembering Ceremony” in Touro Park on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m. After a brief service, people will light and place candles near the Old Stone Mill. All are invited. 401-846-0643.

Compline

Trinity Church, Queen Anne Square, will offer Compline on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. This ancient service, sung by members of the Trinity Choir, offers a rare opportunity for deep spiritual contemplation and meditation. 401-846-0660.

Celebration of Saints

The Church of Saint John the Evangelist, 61 Poplar St., announces a celebration of saints on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 6:30 p.m. and a service of remembrance with Faure’s “Requiem” on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 6:30 p.m. If you submit the names of your departed loved ones to rector@ saintjohns-newport.org by Monday, Oct. 31, their names will be listed in the service booklet and be remembered in the Mass intentions. St. Joseph’s Harvest Fair

St. Joseph’s Church, 5 Mann Ave., will hold its harvest fair on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Enjoy fun, food, children’s activities, a silent auction and more. 401- 847-0065.

WELCA Bazaar

On Saturday, Nov. 5, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., St. Peter’s Church will hold its WELCA bazaar. It will include handmade crafts, white elephant items, baked goods, a silent auction and more. The church is located at 525 Broadway. 401-846-9567.

Penny Social

Jesus Saviour Church, 1 Vernon St., will hold a penny social on Sunday, Nov. 6, from 1-5 p.m. Doors open at noon. 401-847-1267.

Hurricane Benefit

An “Islanders Helping Islanders” fundraiser concert to benefit Haitian victims of Hurricane Matthew will be hosted at Central Baptist Church, 99 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 4 p.m. Featured performers are Accidental Sisters, Central Baptist Church Choir, Matt and Judy Bolles and Cheryl Grelle, and Ten Cent Deposit. All Saints’ Evensong

On Sunday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m., Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St. will offer All Saints' Evensong sung by the Emmanuel Choir. The service will feature choral music by Stanford and Britten. Evensong is a service of sung prayers for the evening. The early Christian Church followed the Jewish practice of praying at certain times of the day, creating the cycle of daily prayer known as the Daily Office. A reception will follow.
