RECENT DEATHS

Cheryl Ruth Dame, 60, of Portsmouth, unexpectedly passed away Oct. 13, 2016 at Newport Hospital. She leaves behind her son, Jared N. Dame, of Portsmouth. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Churchyard, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth.

Frederick “Fred” Margolis, 81, formerly of Newport, passed away Oct. 14, 2016 in Florida. He leaves behind his wife, Sharon; his children, Scott (Julie) of Mass., Seth (Erin) of Newport, Wayne (Karen) of Cumberland, Staci Croy (Reg) of Richmond; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Maurice and wife, Brenda, of Florida. In 1976, Fred and his brother Maurice opened Fifth Ward Liquor, which they ran together along with Sigs until 1980. At the time, the brothers split the businesses and Fred continued to run Fifth Ward Liquor with his wife.

Kenneth R. Mattson, Captain, USNR (ret.), 93, of Portsmouth, passed away Oct. 16, 2016 at Newport Hospital. He leaves behind his wife, Theresa A. (LaChance) Mattson, and his children, Robert Mattson of Portsmouth, Lauren Knapp of Newport, Betsy Wasilewski of Portsmouth, Ingrid Mattson-Charnley of Falmouth, and Eric Mattson of Warren. He also leaves behind several grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in World War II and the Korean War. Leona Misto, RSM, Ed.D., 77, of Newport, passed away Oct. 17, 2016 after a brief illness. Sister Leona served on the staff at Salve Regina University for 36 years. A Mass to honor her life and service will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newport at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 22. Donations in her memory may be made to Salve Regina University/ Sophia Scholarship Fund, 100 Ochre Point Ave., Newport, RI 02840.

Dorothy Christine (Pollitt) Russo, 82, of Newport, passed away Oct. 11, 2016. She leaves behind her three daughters and two stepchildren. She was the wife of the late Joseph G. Russo and former husband, Donald L. Homen.

Lance Corporal Tyrell Jaylon Walaski, 18, of Newport, unexpectedly passed away Oct. 9, 2016 riding a motorbike. He leaves behind his wife, Celeste Zimmerman Walaski, his mother, Jillian A. Walaski, and stepfather, Victor D. Lombard. He was a Rogers High School Junior ROTC graduate in 2015. Calling hours will be held Thursday, Oct. 20, from 4-8 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home. His funeral will be held Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Island Cemetery, Newport.
