The Big Cats Came

Three asphalt trucks lined up in tandem along Broadway on Tuesday along with pavers, rollers, excavators, front-end loaders, backhoes and a brigade of construction workers to pave intersections and sections of the roadway from Equality Park to Washington Square. The puddle-filled side streets and light rain delayed the convoy, but work progressed until nearly 9 p.m. The much anticipated end of the streetscape project is on the horizon, and none too soon, as the Broadway Merchants Association is planning a giant celebration with a street fair all along Broadway from the park to the square on Saturday, Oct. 8. Four outdoor stages will feature local musicians, comedy, and dance. Nearly two dozen restaurants will show off their culinary talents, and local artisans will showcase their creativity, too.
