Hot Wheels for Newport Hospital

The Audrain Auto Museum is lending a rare 2013 Ferrari 458 Spyder to serve as the pace car for Newport Hospital’s upcoming “Fall into Fitness” 5K race/walk and kids’ fun run, to be held Sunday, Sept. 18. Newport Hospital President Crista Durand (at the wheel) and other hospital staff and physicians turned out for a test drive this past week; kids (and parents!) who participate in the race will get the chance to pose with the Ferrari.

The race starts and ends at the Newport County YMCA on Valley Road in Middletown– the kids’ fun run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K starts at 9 a.m. The Navy band and Thompson Middle School band will be on hand to perform, and the Hasbro Children’s Hospital 4-Safety Van will offer fun, safety-themed activities for families. Volunteers from the hospital’s Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Center will also lead kids in a five-minute dynamic warm-up routine prior to the fun run, teaching the children four to five different dynamic warm-up activities, as well as demonstrating the right way to breathe when you exercise. Participants can register online at newporthospital.racewire.com, or onsite on race day. Registration is $35, and kids are free. All proceeds from the race will benefit women’s health services at Newport Hospital.
