RECENT DEATHS

John Edward Almeida, M/SGT, Ret. USAF, 95, of Middletown, passed away Aug. 14, 2016 at the R.I. Veteran’s Home in Bristol. He leaves behind his wife, Caroline White Almeida, four children, and four grandchildren.

Paul Michael Barrow, 61, of Middletown, passed away Aug. 23, 2016. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Calling hours will be Thursday, Aug. 25, from 4-7 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home. His funeral will be Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of R.I.

Beatrice Berman Bazarsky, 97, of Sarasota, Fla. and Middletown passed away Aug. 18, 2016. She was the wife of the late Samuel Z. Bazarsky. She leaves behind her children David Bazarsky (Carol) of Newport, Judy Lavine of Rumford, R.I., 13 grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Seyna Green of Boston. Donations in her memory may be made to Touro Synagogue, 85 Touro St., Newport, RI 02840.

Norman F. Brown, 99, of Portsmouth, passed away Aug. 17, 2016 at Grand Islander Health Care Center of Middletown. He was the husband of the late Beatrice O. (Bolduc) Brown. He was the owner of Ideal Egg Service for 25 years. He leaves behind his daughter, Deborah Robinson, of Portsmouth, a grandson, and two great-grandsons. At his request all services are private.

Catherine J. “Katie” Durnan, 100, of Newport, passed away Aug. 22, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustin Church, Thursday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Augustin Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 357, Newport, RI 02840.

Charles John Michael, 84, of Middletown, passed away Aug. 23, 2016. He leaves behind his wife, Agnes (Botelho) Michael, two daughters, and three grandchildren. He was a Korean War veteran. Calling hours will be Thursday, Aug. 25, from 4-7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. Lydia (Rebello) Raposa, 94, of Portsmouth, passed away Aug. 18, 2016 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. She was the wife of the late Manuel J. Raposa. She was co-founder of Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth.,She leaves behind her children, Ronald Raposa (Mary) of Portsmouth, Louise Salo (Wayne) of Cranston, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Mikiko Ring, 85, of Middletown, passed away Aug. 21, 2016. She was the wife of the late James J. Ring. She leaves behind her children, Paul Ring (Linda) of Middletown, George A. Ring III (Susan) of Middletown, Ann Heines (Rodney) of N.Y., James Ring Jr. of Tenn., five grandchildren, and seven greatgrandchildren. George W. Vieira Jr., 95, of Newport, passed away Aug. 15, 2016 in Orlando, Fla. He was the husband of the late Frances M. Andrew Vieira. He leaves behind four children, 14 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. Later he joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. His funeral was held at Community Baptist Church.
