Choristers Welcome New Voices

The Newport Navy Choristers will open its 2016-2017 season under a new director and welcomes new members.

Rehearsals for the Christmas season will begin Sept. 6 at Perry Hall, Room 100, NAVSTA Newport at 7 p.m. and will continue every Tuesday thereafter.

Lori McDowell replaced JoAnn Loewenthal, who retired after directing the chorus for 20 years. Mc- Dowell is a retired Navy Chief and has lived with her family in Middletown since 1992 when she joined the Choristers. She holds a B.M. degree in Music Education from URI, graduating in 2006, and is an active private music teacher. She is also the music director for Middletown Baptist Church and the Middletown Senior Center Dawn Tones.

The Newport Navy Choristers is composed of active duty military personnel, retirees, reservist and their dependents 16 years and older. The Navy Choristers have been active since 1953, singing to benefit local charities throughout the fall, winter and spring.
