Newport Police Log

During the period from Sunday, July 3, through Sunday, July 10, the Newport Police Department responded to 1,042 calls. Of those, 123 were motor vehicle related; there were 74 motor vehicle violations issued and 49 accident reports.

They responded to 13 calls of vandalism, 36 noise complaints, 31 animal complaints, 80 home/ business alarm calls, 11 bicycle violations or accidents, and 1 suicide call. They transported 6 prisoners, towed 4 vehicles, assisted 9 other police depts. and 1 agency, and made 3 liquor establishment checks.

In addition, 37 arrests were made for the following violations:

  • 7 arrests were made for open containers
  • 6 arrests were made for outstanding bench warrants
  • 4 arrests were made for disorderly conduct
  • 4 arrests were made for larceny
  • 3 arrests were made for domestic simple assault
  • 2 arrests were made for driving without a license or expired
  • 2 arrests were made for simple assault
  • 1 arrest was made for public urination
  • 1 arrest was made for beaches, parks and cliff walk closing
  • 1 arrest was made for toy vehicle upon roadways
  • 1 arrest was made for domestic disorderly conduct
  • 1 arrest was made for possession of narcotics
  • 1 arrest was made for domestic attempted breaking & entering
  • 1 arrest was made for noise violations
  • 1 arrest was made for violating no-contact order
  • 1 arrest was made for felony assault with a dangerous weapon
