Music in the Park

The 10th annual Newport Independent Music Festival, or NIMFest, begins this Sunday, June 26, and will continue on Sundays throughout the summer, from 3-6 p.m. A variety of jazz, rock, and folk artists from the region are lined up. The season opener will feature three local performers: singer-songwriter-guitarist Randy Robbins, the blues and original music of Another Roadside Attraction, and the popular punk-Americana band Mike O'Donnell and the Skinny Millionaires. The venue for the popular grass-roots concerts is the King Park gazebo on Wellington Avenue. Lawn seating is available–bring your favorite folding chair or blanket. King Park features harbor views, shade trees, a playground, a barbecue, and bathroom facilities. Concerts are free and open to the public, are presented by the City of Newport, and are made possible by a generous gift from Mrs. Samuel M.V. Hamilton.
