‘The Power of Song’ Concert

Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, 31-33 Van Zandt Ave., will present “The Power of Song,” featuring the sounds of old school Gospel and the music of Stevie Wonder on Thursday, June 23, at 7 p.m. Free will offering. 401-849-3569.

St. Barnabas Festival

St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, will hold its annual festival of food, fun, and entertainment from Friday, June 24-Sunday, June 26. 401-683-1343.

Global Women’s Summit

On Saturday, June 25, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St., will host Newport’s first Global Women’s Summit and invites all women to attend. Attendees will learn from experts how to be highly successful in their personal lives, in their families, and especially in their businesses and will discuss common experiences and challenges through a series of presentations exploring the evolving and transformative role of women in the world. Reverend Dr. Anita Louise Schell of Emmanuel Church will be among the speakers. Tickets are $50 if you preregister, or $60 at the door. Calvary Yard Sale

Calvary United Methodist Church, 200 Turner Road, Middletown, will hold a yard sale on Saturday, June 25, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. 401-847-6181.

Comedy Night

On Saturday, June 25, the Knights of Columbus, 7 Valley Road, Middletown, will hold a comedy night. It is one of their larger events of the year and funds raised will support Aquidneck Island charities. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for cocktails and appetizers. Candlelit Compline

Trinity Church, 141 Spring St., offers a candlelit Compline on the last Sunday of the month at 7 p.m. The next one will be on Sunday, June 26. This ancient service, sung by members of the Trinity Choir, offers a rare opportunity for deep spiritual contemplation and meditation. Compline stems from the earliest traditions of the church, combining darkness and light, silence and sound, spoken word and beautiful music. 401-846-0660.

Berkshire Choral International Chorus

Trinity Church, 141 Spring St., will host the Berkshire Choral International chorus, with 90 auditioned singers hailing from across the U.S. The chorus will perform Bach’s “Lobet den Herrn” and “Jesu meine Freude,” and Mendelssohn’s “Hor mein Bitten” and “Ave Maria” on Saturday, July 2, at 7:30 p.m. The chorus will be led by renowned conductor David Hayes of the New York Choral Society and Curtis Institute of Music. ‘Mass on the Grass’

Trinity Church, 141 Spring St., will begin its fifth annual series of outdoor services on Sunday, July 3. The 10 a.m. service will be held on the lawn, weather permitting. The 8 a.m. service will be held in the church. Additional outdoor services will be held on Sunday, Aug. 7, and Sunday, Sept. 4. 401-846-0660.

New Group at St. Paul’s

Rev. Jaegil will begin weekly meditation gatherings on Tuesday, July 5 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in the Barber Hall, from 5:30- 6:30 p.m. The Tuesday gatherings will be ongoing. 401-846-0996.

Bach Organ Recitals

St. John’s Church, 61 Poplar St., will hold 15-minute organ recitals on Saturdays at 11:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m., and on Sundays at 5:45 and 8:45 p.m. through Sept. 4. Each program will highlight the music of Bach and a work in variation form by another composer. Admission is 25 cents or any amount you wish. 401-848-2561.
