An ‘Evening for Education’

An “Evening for Education,” a fundraiser for the Newport Public Education Foundation (NPEF) and Newport public schools is set for Friday, June 10, at 6 p.m. at the Edward King House.

A large part of the benefit is the annual presentation of the Noreen Stoner Drexel Awards. The awards represent individuals and organizations that significantly contribute to the success of Newport Public Schools. The 2016 award recipients are Friend of Education Recipient, Lisette Prince; Partner in Education Recipient, Champion Childcare; and the Unsung Hero Recipient, Rebekah Rosen-Gomes, Family Service Coordinator at Pell Elementary School.

This past year NPEF funded almost 20 grant proposals supporting unique classroom experiences for students in our public schools. In addition to the classroom grants, NPEF awarded community grants to organizations that proposed programs to partner with the schools, including Newport Restoration Foundation, Friends of Ballard Park, and the Aquidneck Collaborative for Education.

In addition to the awards presentations, there will be an open bar, hors d’oeuvres, and live entertainment. Tickets are $45 for individuals and $80 for couples. For tickets visit npef-ri.org or call Marcin Rembisz at 401-847-2100, x 219.
