ACT Food Rescue

The Aquidneck Community Table is initiating a food gleaning/ rescue program that will distribute locally-grown, fresh produce and other market goods to those in need.

Working in cooperation with the Aquidneck Growers Market and its vendors, the program will run from mid-June through October. The food rescue will take place at the Wednesday Farmers’ Market on Memorial Boulevard. The public may also drop off donations there, between 2-6 p.m.

Volunteers, 16 years of age and older, are needed to collect and deliver unsold produce, bread and other products from vendors at the close of the market, to the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center where the items will be distributed through the center’s food services program.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the market on Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m., wear closed-toe shoes and be capable of lifting 25 lbs.

Anyone interested in volunteering, may contact Susan Wells at 401-378-7595 or swells229@yahoo.com.
