Wildlife Photo Contest

The Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island has announced its 16th Annual Amateur Photo Competition.

The rules of the contest are simple; color photos must be taken by an amateur photographer on one of the five national wildlife refuges in Rhode Island: Sachuest Point, Ninigret, Block Island, Trustom Pond, and the Chafee NWR at Pettaquamscutt Cove. Submitted photos may be from any time of the year, and may be new or taken previously. The four categories to be considered are fauna, flora, landscape and habitat, and photos by children 14 and under.

Entrants may submit up to four 8” x 10” color photos before the contest deadline on Sept. 5. An entry of $10 per photo is required, with checks made payable to Friends of the NWR of R.I.

Prizes include a $100 cash prize for Best in Show, with lesser cash prizes for first, second and third place winners in each category. Other awards will also be presented. Entry forms may be picked up at the Sachuest Point NWR Visitor Centers or may be found online.

Entries can be dropped off at Sachuest Point or mailed to Friends of the NWR of R.I., 50 Bend Road, Charlestown, RI 02813.
