StormReporter Training

Storm reporter Kevin Hoyt reported no damage from this high tide in Washington County. Storm reporter Kevin Hoyt reported no damage from this high tide in Washington County. Save The Bay, in partnership with the Coastal Resource Management Council, Rhode Island Sea Grant, and the University of Rhode Island Coastal Resources Center, will host training for community volunteers interested in becoming StormReporters who go out and photograph storm damage and flooding in low-lying areas, on Tuesday, May 31, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at The Bay Center, 100 Save The Bay Drive, Providence.

This class will teach volunteers to use the mobile app “MyCoast Rhode Island” to upload images taken on a smartphone to a central database and to alert local emergency officials of dangerous conditions. While anyone can use this app, the class will teach volunteers where critical areas are, what to photograph, and how to stay safe, while capturing important images.
