RECENT DEATHS

William L. Armstrong, 93, of Middletown and Florida, passed away April 12, 2016. He leaves behind his wife, Patricia (Foley) Armstrong; six children, Ellen Steigerwald (Gary), Ann Armstrong (Peter Jung), Patricia Semonelli (Chris), William Armstrong (Lisa), Richard Armstrong (Regan), all of Middletown and Peter Armstrong (Susie) of Conn.; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148. Dorothy N. Favano, 91, of Portsmouth, and Florida, passed away April 16, 2016. She was the wife of the late Joseph C. Favano. She leaves behind her children, Susan Cooper (Garrett Sullivan) of Portsmouth and Joseph Favano Jr. of Conn. A memorial Mass will be April 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Clement’s Church, Stamford, Conn. Ralph James Gizzi, 70, of Portsmouth, passed away April 16, 2016. He leaves behind his wife, Eunice Ann (Simmons) Gizzi, and his children, Gregory Gizzi (Carolyn) of Portsmouth and Diana Ackerman (Casey) of Middletown. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was Bobb Angel’s sidekick on WADK for more than 30 years reporting for the local high school teams. Donations in his memory may be given to one of the island’s high school booster programs.

Dean P. Jerozal, 85, of Newport, passed away April 12, 2016 at the Village House, Newport. She leaves behind her good friend and fellow birdwatcher, Jay Anderson. Donations in her memory may be made in his memory to the Potter League for Animals, P.O. Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.

George E. Kingston, 95, passed away on April 14, 2016 at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, Bristol. He was the husband of the late Helen Pilcher. He leaves behind three children, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and long-time companion Alice R. Coffey. He was a U.S.Army veteran and served during World War II. Locally, he was the leading force for the establishment of a Little League playing field at Braga Park. Donations in his memory may be made in his name to the Newport Lions Club, P.O. William W. Muessel, 97, of Newport, passed away April 15, 2016 at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of the late Lois J. Muessel and father of the late Linda Melrose. After retiring in 1973 from a 34-year career in the Coast Guard, he embarked on a second career with the City of Newport and worked for 36 years as Harbor Coordinator and Assistant Harbor Master. He was involved in the harbor operations until he was 91 years of age. He leaves behind two sons, Michael (Beverly) of Newport and Robert (Martha) of Colorado; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters. A celebration of his life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Newport on Friday, May 6 at 11 a.m. Donations may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church, 4 Everett St., Newport, RI 02840.

Rosel Provost passed away April 16, 2016. She was the wife of the late Merle Provost. She leaves behind three children. Calling hours will be Friday, April 22, from 4 – 7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be April 23 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church on Broadway. Steven A. Schreiner, 69, of Portsmouth and Florida, passed away April 18, 2016 at home after a twoyear battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife, Margaret “Peggy” (McNamara) Schreiner, two sons, and four grandchildren. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War. Teresa Eileen (Shea) Stritzinger, 94, of Middletown, passed away April 16, 2016 at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown. She was the wife of the late Robert (Bob) H. Stritzinger. She leaves behind two daughters, Christine Fagan (Stephen) and Teri Sullivan (Matthew), all of Middletown, and four grandchildren.
