‘Sacred Nourishment’

St. Mary’s Church, Tenth Gate Yoga, and clean-food coach Jeannette Bessinger are teaming up to offer “Sacred Nourishment: Quick Cooking and Slow Feasting,” a community cooking class for people with limited time. Learn preparation shortcuts then enjoy a meal that includes fresh no-cook sauces, “zoodles” and other veggie pastas, and salads. The class will be held at St. Mary’s, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, on Thursday, April 14, from 6-8:30 p.m. The cost for the lesson and meal is $50. Emmanuel Book Group

On Tuesday, April 19, at 6 p.m., the Emmanuel Church Book Group will meet in the Guild Room, 42 Dearborn St. The discussion will be on “The Penguin Lessons,” by Tim Mitchell. All are welcome to attend. 401-847-0675.

‘Jesus without Humanity’ Seminars

The public is invited to attend the Learning Center of Channing Church’s series of Wednesday morning seminars about who Jesus was and what he taught. Upcoming seminars will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, April 20 and 27 in the parish house, 135 Pelham St. A $5 registration fee for one or both sessions can be paid at the door. The Well Coffeehouse

The Well is a once-a-month Christian coffeehouse held at The Annex, 40 Marcus Wheatland Blvd., from 7-9 p.m. It features area musicians and performers from various walks of life and affiliations. ‘A Day Apart’ Spiritual Renewal Retreat

On Sunday, April 23, from 9:45 a.m.-3 p.m., St. Paul’s Church will offer “A Day Apart Spiritual Renewal.” The focus is to help people find the Divine Presence in everyday life. All denominations are invited. This free event will take place at St. Paul’s Barber Hall, 12 Marlborough St. Reserve at the church office, 401-846-0966, as a light lunch will be served.

Channing Film Series

The Learning Center of Channing Church, 135 Pelham St., will continue its series of classic film noir on Saturdays. Upcoming films, shown at 6:30 p.m., are “Out of the Past,” on April 23 and “The Lady From Shanghai,” on May 8. Discussions will be led by Sam Jernigan, a film aficionado who has led courses at the Circle of Scholars at Salve Regina University. Wine and cheese will be served. St. John’s Evensong

On Sunday, April 24, at 4 p.m., St. John’s Church at Washington and Willow streets will offer a Festal Eastertide Evensong featuring the Professional Choristers of The Choir School, St. John’s Adult Choir, and the Rhode Island College Brass Quintet. The quintet will play before and after the service, and perform two items in conjunction with the choir during the service. A reception will follow in the church’s Guild Hall celebrating the promotion of the choristers and the faculty of The Choir School of Newport County. 401-848-2561.

‘Lettuce Turnip the Beet’ Fundraiser

On Wednesday, April 27, from 5:30-8:30 p.m., there will be a fundraiser for the Island Community Garden at Great Friends Meeting House. Celebrate planting the seeds at Caleb and Broad with complimentary nibbles, cash bar and the sounds of Slackwater String Band presented by Common Fence Music. The suggested donation is $20 and all proceeds will go to the building of the Great Friends Meeting House Community Garden.

Kingdom Breakthrough New England

This two-day event, hosted by CrossPoint Church and Evangelical Friends Church, will reach out through the arts for the advancement of the Kingdom of God with prayer, worship, artistic performances and workshops. Joining them will be the internationally acclaimed Light of the World Ballet and worship artist Priscilla Williams of Glory Gazing Ministries. As part of their national tour of the United States, Pastor Tom and Kate Hess of Jerusalem House of Prayer for All Nations will also take part in the event. On April 30 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at CrossPoint Church, 14 Rhode Island Ave., there will be breakthrough prayer, worship and teaching workshops; at 6 p.m., at Rogers High School, 15 Wickham Road, the Light of the World Ballet will perform. On May 1 at 11 a.m., there will be a joint worship service along with a performance by the Light of the World Ballet. The two-day event is free and open to the public. Emmanuel Church Concert

On Sunday, May 1 at 4 p.m., Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St., will present Schola Cantorum of Boston. Music of Guerrero and Morales will be featured. For admission and other information, visit scholacantorumboston.com.
