Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

AmeriCorps volunteers from around the country gathered in Newport March 13-16 for a national conference sponsored by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), an organization with a grass-roots mission, funded publicly and privately, of revitalizing communities and the quality of life for its inhabitants. On Monday, March 14, they met with Gov. Gina Raimondo and Sen. Jack Reed; Wednesday, March 16, was reserved for a day of service at the Newport County YMCA. This army of nearly 100 good Samaritans spent the day replenishing mulch in the playground, sanding, repainting, and moving the flagpole, and putting fresh coats of polyurethane on the picnic tables.
