RECENT DEATHS

Joan Arlene (Sullivan) Custy, 81, of Newport, passed away Feb. 2, 2016 at Village House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Newport. She was the wife of Raymond M. Custy. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in her honor at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.

Barry E. Magee, 71, of Middletown, passed away Feb. 4, 2016 at Newport Hospital. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired after 23 years with the rank of Senior Master Chief. He was also an officer with the Newport Police Department for 21 years. A memorial service will be Friday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. John R. “Bobby” Mello, of Middletown, passed away Feb. 8, 2016 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Mello; his children, John R. Mello Jr., Jean Mello, Christopher Mello, Patricia Mello, Jennifer Barrera; and five grandchildren. He was the proprietor of Mello Construction Company, his family business that was founded in 1922, and was also the owner of Bay View Park in Middletown. Calling hours will be Friday, Feb. 12, from 4 -7 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Feb. 13 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Lucy’s Church, Middletown. Jeffrey Jay Pimentel, 55, of Portsmouth, passed away Feb. 4, 2016. He was the husband of the late Laurie (Islieb) Pimentel. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in his honor at St. Anthony’s Church.

Ann Jane (Ripa) Warner, 94, formerly of Middletown, passed away Feb. 1, 2016. She was the wife of the late Robert F. Warner Sr. She leaves behind five children and their families. She was a guide for the Preservation Society of Newport County for almost four decades, retiring at age 90. A Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Lucy’s Parish, Middletown, with visitation at the church at 9:30 a.m. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org.
