Virginia “Ginny” Russell Bender, 87, of Newport, passed away Dec. 21, 2015 at Village House Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Robert Glenn Bender. She leaves behind three children and five grandchildren. Donations in her memory may be made to the Village House Activities Center, 70 Harrison Ave., Newport, RI 02840.

Anna Frances Bryan, 82, of Newport, passed away Dec. 28, 2015 at Grand Islander Nursing Home, Middletown. Calling hours will be Monday, Jan. 4, from 10 -11 a.m. at Community Baptist Church. John S. “Jack” Fougere Sr., 85, of Newport, passed away Dec. 21, 2015 at Village House Nursing Home of Newport. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Garrison) Fougere. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He leaves behind his children, Deborah Owens of Saunderstown, John S. Fougere Jr. of Mass., Michael D. Fougere of Middletown, and his step-daughter, Bonnie Stevens of Newport. Donations in his memory may be made to the Village House Nursing Home Activities Fund, 70 Harrison Ave., Newport, RI 02840.

Arthur G. Leonard, 74, of Middletown, passed away Dec. 25, 2015 following complications from heart surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. He leaves behind his wife, Kathleen (Grant) Leonard, five children and 16 grandchildren. He was also the husband of the late Kathleen (McKinnon) Leonard. Antone T. Pimental, 97, of Newport, passed away Dec. 25, 2015 in Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy (Vigario) Pimental. Donations in his memory may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals, P.O. Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.

Horatio Rodman Rogers, 90, of Middletown, passed away Dec. 19, 2015. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served in World War II. He leaves behind his wife, Lois Poucher Rogers, four children, and eight grandchildren. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Columba’s Chapel, 55 Vaucluse Ave., Middletown, RI 02842.

David Michael Sagamang, 56, of North Kingstown, formerly of Middletown, passed away Dec. 27, 2015. He leaves behind his wife, Linda (Loughlin), and four sons. Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 31, from 3 – 7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. A Mass of

James Edward Sawyer Sr., 77, of Newport, passed away Dec. 22, 2015 at Newport Hospital. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He leaves behind his wife, Nancy E. (Michaud) Sawyer, and his children, Elizabeth and Jennifer Sawyer, of Newport, and James E. Sawyer Jr. of Tiverton, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Raymond Carter Sullivan, 80, of Middletown, passed away Dec. 22, 2015 at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River, Mass. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Davison) Sullivan. He was the first head coach of the Portsmouth High football team, retiring from that position in 1977 after 14 years. He leaves behind his five children, Kevin Sullivan (Pam) of San Diego, Raymond Sullivan of Newport, Colleen Weaver of Middletown, Carrie Hambleton (Mark) of Middletown, Sean Sullivan (Denise) of Middletown, and seven grandchildren.
