Daffodillion

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the Editor:

On behalf of Daffodillion (and Mother Nature), thank you from the bottom of our bags of bulbs for everyone’s support in ongoing efforts to beautify our city with one million daffodils.

This fall, 106,000 daffodil bulbs were purchased and distributed to residents and to the city. Nearly "half a dillion” (494,000, to be exact) bright yellow daffodils are now hibernating, preparing for the spring arrival. Our new, automated bulb-planting machine (one of only two in the country) was a significant help with this fall’s record planting.

We are tremendously grateful to the many contributors whose donations purchased both the machine and the thousands of bulbs that were given away.

None of this would be possible without the support of the city of Newport and our volunteer planters who showed up at major planting sites with their shovels, spades, and smiles; and of course, the countless residents, schools and businesses who took the time and care to plant bulbs on their properties. All can take pride in making Newport an ever more beautiful city in which to live.

Mark your calendars as we celebrate the daffodils' bright, golden arrival next April 16-24, when our third annual Newport Daffodil Days Festival promises to be bigger, better, brighter – and daffier – than ever.

Go to daffodillion.com for more information and to volunteer or contribute to next year’s bulb purchase and planting.
