Transportation Options

Flex Service, a program designed to help serve the unmet mobility needs of communities across Rhode Island, offers passengers the option of calling for a ride or picking up the Flex vehicle at one of its regularly scheduled Flex stops. The Flex vehicle, typically a 16-passenger vehicle with space for two wheelchairs, travels within a geographicallylimited Flex zone.

Each Flex zone represents a suburban or rural area that has little or no fixed-route bus service. The Flex vehicle travels within the Flex zone, picks up and drops passengers off within the zone and connects them to fixed-route bus service for travel outside the zone.

To use Flex Service, passengers either make a reservation 48 hours in advance by calling the toll-free FlexLine at 1-877- 906-FLEX (3539) or 401-784- 9500, ext. 220 or pick up the Flex vehicle at any of the scheduled Flex stops within the Flex zone. Flex Service operates Monday through Friday.

The fare structure for Flex is the same as RIPTA's regular bus service.

LogistiCare provides transportation services to those 60 and older, and adults with disabilities under 60 who meet certain criteria. Transportation is generally available weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for medical appointments and tests, adult day care, kidney dialysis, cancer treatments, and senior center/community meal site cafes. There is a $2 one-way fee per ride. Adult day service clients and persons on medical assistance are not charged transportation fees. Reservations, which can be made Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., should be made at least seven business days in advance by calling 1-855-330-9131.
