Lending a Helping Hand

Bill Moriarty, left, and Ed Murray, an Ancient Order of Hibernians member, were two of the 10 volunteers at St. Joseph’s Church that recently helped provide 110 families with the ingredients for Thanksgiving dinners, including everything from soup to nuts. The AOH, Elks, Newport Fire Department, Newport Firefighters Local 1080, Newport Firefighters Pension Fund, Stop and Shop, and a number of other charitable organizations and individuals donated non-perishable goods, turkeys, pies, toppings and gift certificates to help local families have a happy Thanksgiving. According to volunteer Celeste Lalli, “We have so many groups and people who help, and we know the need is there in the community. This program is important and it will be here for those who need it in the future as well.” (Photo by Jack Kelly) Bill Moriarty, left, and Ed Murray, an Ancient Order of Hibernians member, were two of the 10 volunteers at St. Joseph’s Church that recently helped provide 110 families with the ingredients for Thanksgiving dinners, including everything from soup to nuts.
