Newport Readies for the Holiday Season

The Christmas season has arrived in Washington Square. A 25-foot Colorado blue spruce, donated by Peckham Brothers of Paradise Avenue in Middletown, now adorns the western side of the square. David Leys, chairman of the Downtown Decoration Committee, remarked, “This is a great tree and it really brings us closer to the Christmas season. We had a lot of quality help from the folks at Casey Tree Specialists, Newport Tent, T.J. Brown’s, and the Newport Preservation Society, all of whom volunteered their vehicles, equipment, and time to make this happen.” Coastal Electric volunteers will string the lights and have everything ready for the grand lighting on Dec. 1, as Christmas in Newport officially begins this year’s festivities.
