Rare Bird Sighting

A pair of wayward American avocets, approximately 1,500 miles out of range, were observed recently by local bird watchers in the restored salt marsh region of Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge. This migrant species, which nests in western North America, normally migrates south along the Central and Mississippi Flyways to southern wintering grounds along the Gulf Coast, Mexico and Central America.
