The People Can Save Middletown

To the Editor:

Only the people can save Middletown from widespread development from developers and their representatives.

I have tried to convince my colleagues on the Town Council to amend the Comprehensive Plan completely, to match our zoning, to comply with the law, and prevent developers and their representatives from having a clear path to developing the town any way they want. Let us preserve the quality of our lives and those of our children.

Please attend the council meeting on Monday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m., and tell them they made a mistake in approving the present Comprehensive Plan, and to please rectify that mistake by amending the entire plan to match the zoning ordinances. This will not only say that the town has complied with the law, but the Comprehensive Plan and zoning ordinances will be compatible.

As James Madison, our fourth president and "Father of the Constitution," said, “Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.”

Antone C. Viveiros,
Middletown Town Council
