Remembrance and Gratitude

Colonel Roy D. Lauth of the Newport Artillery Company addressed the attendees of Newport’s Veterans Day observances on Wednesday morning, Nov. 11. Approximately 135 veterans and their families attended the observance, which due to blustery weather (and the threat of rain) was moved from outside, in front of City Hall, to inside at the Newport Police Station. The keynote speaker was Navy Capt. Francis Molinari, Chief of Staff at the Naval War College, and the Newport Artillery Company and 35 Junior ROTC Viking Batallion from Rogers High School formed the honor guard. In Portsmouth, a ceremony honoring Blue Star Families (those with family members currently serving in the military) was held at the Portsmouth Town Hall. Keynote speaker was Master Sgt. Lenny S. Vasquez of the U.S. Marine Corps, a Purple Heart recipient. The observance concluded with a wreath-laying ceremony and the playing of taps. (Photo by Meri Keller) Colonel Roy D.
