Manuel Alves, 80, of Middletown, passed away Oct. 30, 2015 at Newport Hospital. He leaves behind his wife, Maria Da Paixão (Camara) Alves, and his three children, Brenda Lee Alves of Fall River, Kevin Manuel Alves of New Bedford, and Yvonne Alves of Middletown; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Mary (Korahakis) Champion, 91, of Middletown, passed away Oct. 29, 2015 at Newport Hospital. She was the wife of the late Sydney Champion. Donations in her memory may be made to the Gregory Pappas Scholarship Fund, St. George’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St., Manchester, NH 03104.

Nell Gottier, 96, of Middletown, passed away Oct. 28, 2015. She was the wife of the late Henry Gottier Sr. She leaves behind four children, five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Donations may be made to St. Lucy's Catholic Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, RI 02842.

Philip Grauer, 55, of Newport, passed away Oct. 30, 2015 at home. A memorial gathering will be held on Nov. 14 from 10 - 11 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Speen St., 2nd Floor, Framingham, MA 01701.

Anthony F. Lascaris, 91, formerly of Newport, passed away Oct. 29, 2015 in Penn. He leaves behind his wife Despina (Malis) Lascaris, a stepdaughter, two grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. With 41 years in government service, he was in the White House during the Kennedy Administration and then moved on to serve as the Attaché for the Department of Homeland Security in Athens. Calling hours will be held Thursday, Nov. 5, from 6-8 p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home. His funeral will be Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. in St. Spyridon’s Greek Orthodox Church. David Randal McCarthy, 81, of Portsmouth, passed away Oct. 28, 2015. He leaves behind his wife, Cheryl Ann (Landry) McCarthy, eight children, and 16 grandchildren. Donations in his memory may be made to the Portsmouth Abbey School, 285 Corys Lane, Portsmouth, RI 02871.

Anthony L. “Tony” McFarland, 86, of Newport, passed away Oct. 30, 2015 at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of the late Filomena (DeMatteo) McFarland. He served in the Army during the Korean War, and worked for 25 years for the U.S. Postal Service. He leaves behind three sons: Michael A. McFarland (Debbie) of Portsmouth, Peter L. McFarland of Bristol, and Timothy S. McFarland of Middletown, and his former daughter-in-law, Ann McFarland, of Dartmouth, Mass., three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Rita D. Muldoon, 98, of Newport, passed away Nov 2, 2015 at the Village House Nursing Home, Newport. She was the wife of the late Harry Muldoon and is survived by her son, Terence M. A Angela Mary (Aguiar) Pimentel, 97, of Portsmouth, passed away Oct. 27, 2015. She was the wife of the late John Joseph Pimentel Sr. She is survived by her children, John J. Pimentel Jr., J. John Pimentel, Jeffrey Pimentel, Joanne Medeiros (Edward), Joyce Tavares (David), Jeanne Fitzpatrick (Charles), all of Portsmouth, and Judith Braga of Mass.; seven grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. Howard L. Porter, 88, of Middletown, passed away Nov. 1, 2015 at the John Clarke Nursing & Retirement Center, Middletown. He leaves behind his wife, Carolyn L. (Bracken) Porter. He served in the Army Air Corp in World War II, the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, on “loan” to the Navy as a meteorologist and then to the Marines; and later served 20 years in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He is survived by his four children and three grandchildren. Calling hours will be Thursday, Nov. 5 from 3 - 7 p.m. at the Connors Funeral Home, Portsmouth.
