The seventh-grade Pennfield Oak Society helped Clean Ocean Access recently at Pheasant Beach in Portsmouth. The group removed 338 pounds of trash! As part of its year-round marine debris efforts, Clean Ocean Access monitors all rights-of-way to protect, preserve and expand public access to the shoreline two times per month, for all 50 rights-of-way in Aquidneck Island. On Oct. 17 a team of 48 people removed 338 pounds of marine debris from the shoreline of Portsmouth from Pheasant Drive Beach southward to the Newport Beach Club and northward to the Mount Hope Bridge.

Upcoming cleanups are Nov. 7 (Taylors Lane, Little Compton), Nov. 14 (Corys Lane, Portsmouth), Dec. 5 (Hull Cove, Jamestown), and Dec. 12 (Gull Cove, Portsmouth). All cleanups are from noon – 2 p.m. Check cleanoceanaccess.org for updates. For more information, contact info@cleanoceanaccess.org.
