RECENT DEATHS

Michael (Mickey) Joseph Blank Jr., 90, of Middletown, passed away at home on Oct. 17, 2015. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later as a Newport firefighter from 1952 - 1976. He was the husband of the late Barbara (Connelly) Blank and father of the late Sean Blank. He leaves behind his children, Deborah (Harry) Winthrop of Newport, Kristine Millhouse of Fla., Michael III (Kathleen) Blank of Middletown, Bruce Blank of Middletown, Brian (Lisa) Blank of Newport, Stephen (Colleen) Blank of Fla., 15 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Donations in his memory may be made to the Middletown Senior Center, 650 Green End Ave., Middletown, RI 02842.

Elizabeth G. Briggs, 87, of Portsmouth, passed away Oct. 14, 2015 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She leaves behind her husband, Ernest L. Briggs, and her children, Deborah Gustafson (Dennis), Stuart Briggs (Maureen), Benjamin Briggs (Cynthia) and Byron Briggs (Karen), ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. John M. Burns, 88, of Newport, passed away Oct. 16, 2015 at the Village House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Patricia O’Connell Burns. He leaves behind a son, Timothy J. Burns (Pattie), of Newport and three granddaughters. Carole A. (Nelson) Goodburn, 81, of Middletown, passed away Oct. 18, 2015. She was the wife of the late James O. Goodburn. She leaves behind her children, David S. Goodburn (Jennelle) of Jamestown, Cynthia Dube (Robert) of Middletown, and Linda Taylor, and seven grandchildren. Bernadette M. Moniz, 61, of Middletown, passed away Oct. 16, 2015. She leaves behind her husband, Steven J. Moniz; her daughters, Jeannine Moniz, Alison Ducharme and Renee Moniz; and four grandchildren. Elizabeth Jane “Betty” (Samuelian) Perry, 66, of Middletown, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 18, 2015 at Newport Hospital. She leaves behind her long-time companion John Silvia and her three daughters Tammy Pires (Robert) of Portsmouth, Ronda Bivens (Wayne) of Kentucky, and Allison Whitelatch (Brian) of Middletown. Calling hours will be Thursday, Oct. 22, from 4 - 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a service at 7:30 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals, P.O. Florence Louise (Esleeck) Schuster, 89, of Middletown, passed away Oct. 15, 2015 at Newport Hospital. She leaves behind her husband, Alfred “Bud” Schuster; her sons Robert Schuster of Fla. and James Schuster of Middletown; her daughters, Deborah Spicer of Louisiana and Barbara Schuster of Vermont and Middletown; nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Charlotte C. (Carter) Weston, 92, of Middletown, passed away Oct. 17, 2015 at the John Clarke Nursing & Retirement Center, Middletown. She was the wife of the late Warren H. Weston Sr. She leaves behind her children, Warren Weston, Jr. (Joyce) of Mass., Guy Weston (Kim) of Newport, Nancy Bardwell (James) of Middletown, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Donations in her memory may be made to Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Blvd., Newport, RI 02840.
