'A Philippine Night' to Remember

His Eminence Jose L. Cuisia, Jr., the Philippine ambassador to the United States, will be the guest of honor at “A Philippine Night” on Monday, Oct. 26, at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Valley Road. The event will be hosted by four local cultural Philippine organizations: The Filipino-American Association of Newport, The Filipino-American Community of South Coast (based in Fall River), the Newport Council of International Visitors, and Linkod Timoy, a Middletown-based nonprofit whose mission, since 2004, has been to provide medical, educational, and cultural assistance in the Philippines.

Cuisia’s visit is significant, marking the first time a sitting Philippine ambassador has visited Rhode Island. Accompanied by the Philippine Consul General, his day will be a busy one. He will begin by meeting in Providence with Sen. Jack Reed; come down to Newport to deliver a speech to the Naval War College; head back to Providence for a session with Gov. Gina Raimondo in the afternoon; and then head back down to Aquidneck island for the gathering at the K of C Hall. As the guest speaker, he will honor—and be honored by— members of the local Filipino- American community. The evening will end with food, cultural presentations, and dancing.
