As part of its commitment to OB/GYN and family-centered care, Newport Hospital has completed a renovation of its Noreen Stonor Drexel Birthing Center, just in time for the center’s 20th anniversary. Updates to the facility range from new flat-screen TVs and sleep sofas for partners and spouses to artfully designed doors for cupboards that neatly house medical equipment.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on Oct. 3, information on new “gentle” C-sections, maintaining a healthy pregnancy, and infant care was presented in addition to tours and staff meet and greets.

Newport Hospital now has a full complement of OB/GYN providers. Earlier this year, the hospital welcomed two new physicians and a nurse midwife to the OB/GYN team who see patients at the hospital’s Newport and Portsmouth locations. The pediatric team continues to provide skilled, seamlessly integrated care to newborns and supportive assistance to moms with breastfeeding and newborn care concerns.

The Birthing Center first opened its doors in 1995 and since that time more than 13,000 babies have been born there.
