RECENT DEATHS

Vicki Anne Blakeley Schmidt, 59, of Jamestown, passed away Sept. 4, 2015 at home, following a three-year battle with ovarian cancer. She leaves behind her husband, Deken Schmidt, and her three children, Andrew, Blakeley, and Benjamin. The majority of her professional life was spent in obstetrics at Newport Hospital, where she helped usher thousands of new babies into the world, and she was one of the founders of the Breastfeeding Support Group. Calling hours will be held Sunday, Sept. 13, from 4-7 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home. A memorial service will be Sept. 14 at First Congregational Church, Wellfleet, Mass. Mansfield Allen “Pro” Lyon, 84, of Newport, passed away Sept. 4, 2015 at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary (Breck) Lyon. He leaves behind three children and five grandchildren. Following a private family gathering this week, a service in his memory will be held at Trinity Church on Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the Susan E. Irene P. Marano, 82, of Portsmouth, passed away Aug. 29, 2015 at Newport Hospital. She leaves behind her husband, Michael Marano Sr., and her sons, Michael Marano Jr. (Deborah), of Newport, and Matthew Marano (Michelle), of Portsmouth. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, cancer.org/donate.

Louise Medeiros, 99, of Portsmouth, passed away Sept. 2, 2015 at the Crestwood Nursing Home, Warren, R.I. She was the wife of the late Manuel P. Medeiros. She leaves behind her children, Edward Medeiros (Joanne), Anita Cabral (Joseph) and Joan Ouellette (Donald), all of Portsmouth, and Elaine Tierney of Warren, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Jean L. (Hill) Minese, 89, of Portsmouth, passed away Sept. 1, 2015. She was the wife of the late August John Minese Jr. She leaves behind her sons, Ronald Minese, Michael Minese, David Minese (Laura), and Gerald Minese, all of Portsmouth, and her daughter, Michelle Medeiros (Ronald) of Little Compton, eight grandchildren, and six greatgrandchildren. Donations in her memory may be made to the Silver Creek Manor Activities Fund, 7 Creek Lane, Bristol, RI 02809.

Margaret T. Roche, 62, of Newport, passed away Sept. 1, 2015 at Newport Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. in Jesus Saviour Church, Newport.
