According to Assistant Director of Institutional Advancement Gretchen Market, close to 130 members gathered under or near the shade of Redwood’s signature Cutleaf European beech tree for refreshments and music by the Lois Vaughan Jazz Trio. When asked about the headgear, Market confirmed that there were indeed some “top-notch straw hats.” This was the first garden party for Director Benedict Leca, who joined the organization earlier this year.

Upcoming events at the library include “What’s It Worth?” on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 1 - 5 p.m., an appraisal event hosted by Freeman’s Auction House; and the Life of the Mind Salon will launch its 2015 series on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 5:30 - 7 p.m., with author Ted Widmer, who will speak on his new book, “Brown: The History of an Idea.”
