RECENT DEATHS

Arthur M. Hines, 90, of Middletown, passed away Aug. 15, 2015 at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of the late Marie Elizabeth (Antone) Hines. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served for another 25 years. He leaves behind his children, Donna Matthews (Thomas) of Middletown, John J. Gonsalves Jr. (Naomi) of Dartmouth, and William Gonsalves of Middletown. Calling hours will be Friday, Aug. 21, from 4 – 7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. His funeral service will be Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.

Barbara Krensavage, 59, of Portsmouth, unexpectedly passed away Aug. 16, 2015 at home of natural causes. She leaves behind her husband, Dr. Thaddeus J. Krensavage, and two sons, Michael and Tristan Krensavage. Calling hours will be Thursday, Aug. 20, from 4 – 8 p.m. at Connors Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be held on Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Barnabas Church.

Francis Anthony Lawrence, 94, of Middletown, passed away Aug. 17, 2015 at the R.I. Veterans Home, Bristol. He was the husband of Helen Mary (Arruda) Atwater Lawrence. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was owner and operator of Lawrence Real Estate and Insurance. He leaves behind his children, Francis Lawrence Jr. (Olinda), Bev Lawrence, David Lawrence (Jennifer), and Helen Botelho (Edward), seven grandchildren, and a great-grandson. Calling hours will be Friday, Aug. 21, from 4-7 p.m. at Hambly Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Aug. 22 at 10 a.m., at Jesus Saviour Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow. Donations in his memory may be made to Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.

Anne F. Bernhardt Pike, 97, of Newport, passed away Aug. 12, 2015. She was the wife of the late Webster Z. Pike and mother of the late David William Pike. She leaves one son, Bruce E. Pike, of Newport. Funeral services were private. Donations in her memory may be made to the Potter League for Animals, P.O. Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.

William A. Smith, 88, of Middletown, passed away Aug. 14, 2015 at Heatherwood Nursing Center, Newport. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He leaves behind a daughter and five grandchildren. Donations in his memory may be made to the Potter League for Animals, P.O. Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.

John (Jack) Major Taylor V, 83, of Portsmouth, passed away Aug. 11, 2015 at The Grand Islander, Middletown. He leaves behind his wife, Margaret (Peggy) Norton; his daughter, Lorrie Burns (Timothy) of Portsmouth; his son, John Major Taylor VI of Georgia; and five grandchildren. He was a Newport Police Officer for 28 years and retired as an Inspector in 1983.

Maureen E. Tefft, 61, of Beaufort, S.C., formerly of Portsmouth, passed away Aug. 13, 2015 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She leaves behind her husband, Michael John Tefft; her two children, Christopher Tefft and Gretchen Vance; and a grandson. Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. at Connors Funeral Home.
