Annual Salute to Summer

Naval Station Newport Commanding Officer invites the public to hear the Navy Band Northeast and watch fireworks on Dewey Field Saturday, Aug. 29. Festivities begin at 5 p.m., but the field opens to base personnel at 4 p.m. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

Seeking Vets to Interview

Students at the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) will be writing essays about people who came before them. Professor Fran Coulter is looking for military veterans for student interviews. Veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan in any branch of service are asked to contact Coulter at Coulter@NAPS.edu.

Preventive Health Month

The Naval Health Clinic will offer two “Food Fitness and Healthy Heart” seminars on Monday, Aug. 24 and 31 at noon. A weight management support will meet at 99 Restaurant on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. To attend one of the wellness classes, call 401-841-6777.
