‘Votes for Women’ Anniversary

The Preservation Society of Newport County and the League of Women Voters of Rhode Island will celebrate 95 years of women and the vote at Marble House, the Newport home of Alva Vanderbilt Belmont, noted suffragist. Beginning in 1909, Alva Vanderbilt Belmont held summer suffrage meetings at Marble House to raise funds and support for women's right to vote. The celebration on Wednesday, Aug. 26 will include a poetry reading and a musical interlude, and a re-enactment of a “Votes for Women” march will complete the event.
