Gateway Changes on Horizon?

With the Federal Transit Authority a possible source of 90 percent funding, Newport city officials and the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority have begun talking about significant improvements to the city’s Gateway Center on America’s Cup Avenue. Of course, for visitors arriving in town via the Newport Pell Bridge, the center is one of the first significant landmarks they see. Improvements would include a new permanent roof over the outside waiting areas, as well as rain gardens and other drainage changes, new sidewalks and new paint on the building’s roof. See accompanying story. (Design rendering courtesy of DHK Architects)
