RECENT DEATHS

Patricia Ann (Sulivan) Botelho, 77, of Portsmouth, passed away July 24, 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late James P. Botelho. They worked side by side at their Colonial Ice Cream Parlor until 1985. She leaves behind three children, five grandchildren, and five greatgrandchildren. Terrence C. Burns, 78, of Newport, passed away July 27, 2015 at home surrounded by family. He was the husband of Mary Ellen Clifford Burns. During his 55- year career in education he was a classroom teacher and a math department chair, and was later vice principal of Thompson Middle School and principal at Rogers High School. He then taught at Roger Williams University for 25 years. He leaves behind his children, Colleen Burns Jermain (Tim), Patrick Burns (Anne), and Timothy Burns (Lorrie), all of Aquidneck Island, and six grandchildren. Calling hours will be on Thursday, July 30, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the O’Neill- Hayes Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on July 31, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustin’s Church. Barry Flynn, 69, of Newport, passed away July 17, 2015 after a brave struggle with glioblastoma multiforme (brain cancer). He leaves behind his wife, Lisa Runz Flynn, and daughter, Charlotte. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Donations in his memory may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA 02445.

Jessica Leis, 66, of Middletown, passed away July 21, 2015 at home. She leaves behind her sons, David Meikle of Newport, William Bierce of Bristol, and Benjamin Bierce of Middletown. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Aug. 2, from 3 – 6 p.m. at the Connors Funeral Home, Portsmouth.

Franics E. Lombardo, 73, of Middletown, passed away July 25, 2015 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. He leaves behind his wife, Marie E. (Correia) Lombardo; his children, Debra Perrault of Maine, Richard Lombardo and Jennine Lombardo of Virginia, and James and John Lombardo of Middletown; nine grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during Vietnam. Services will be private. Manuel J. “Brother” Mello Jr., 90, of Middletown, passed away July 19, 2015 at home. He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Parvo) Mello. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was involved in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy. He leaves behind two daughters, four grandchildren, and a great-grandson. Stephen M. Mitchell, 53, of Middletown, passed away July 25, 2015 at the Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown. He leaves behind two sons and three grandchildren. Ofelia Cajudo Montevirgen, 68, of Middletown, passed away July 27, 2015 at home surrounded by family. She leaves behind her husband, James Mon Montevirgen; her children, Lovelle DaSilva (Fernando) of Tiverton and Joshua Montevirgen (Karen) of Middletown; and four grandchildren. Calling hours will be Sunday, Aug. 2, from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 3, at 10:30 a.m. in CrossPoint Church, 14 Rhode Island Ave., Newport. Kathy Kempenaar “KK” Sundin, 54, of Newport, passed away July 26, 2015 after a two-year battle with cancer. She leaves behind her husband, Fredrick Sundin; her children, Alexandra Healy and Trevor Healy (Vicki) and their son, Logan, all of Newport; and two stepdaughters and their three daughters. Calling hours will be held Friday, July 31, from 4 -8 p.m. at the Hambly Funeral Home, 30 Red Cross Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Kenneth James Wygant, 68, of Newport, passed away July 21, 2015 at the John Clarke nursing facility, Middletown, after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind his son, Kenneth Wygant, and a grandson.
