It's Festival Time

Last year Rolling Stone Magazine called it “the world’s most storied folk festival . . . filling the small beach town of Newport with many of the best musicians in the country.” Its popularity, the magazine continued, comes from the quality of the music, the intimacy of the performances, and the fact that “most big acts take a financial hit to play the three-day fest, held on the gorgeous, centuries-old Fort Adams with a daily capacity of only 10,000.” From such original legends as Joan Baez and Johnny Cash the storied pantheon continues to grow. One highlight will be the 50th anniversary, on Saturday, of the night Bob Dylan laid down his acoustic guitar. The festival will also be mourning the recent passing, on July 21, of Theodore Bikel, one of its founding fathers.
