RECENT DEATHS

Peter R. “Boo” Booth, 65, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2015 at home. He joined the Newport Fire Department in 1973 and was promoted to Deputy Chief in 1998. He retired in 2002, having served for 29 years. He leaves behind his wife, Jackie (Mathieu); his son, Brian Booth; daughter, Allison Booth; and stepsons, Eli, Zachary and Luke Palmisciano. A memorial service will be held at noon on Thursday, July 9 at Green Valley Country Club, Portsmouth. Donations in his memory may be made to the Hospice Program of VNS Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.

Chief Donald L. Homen, MPD Ret., 82, of Middletown, passed away July 1, 2015 at Newport Hospital. He joined the Middletown Police Department in 1953 and was appointed Chief of the Department 10 years later. He was the former husband of Dorothy (Pollitt) Russo and the late Carolyn (Stafford) Homen. He leaves behind his three daughters, Christine Homen of Fla., Cynthia Homen of Portsmouth and Jill Homen of Newport, and his two grandchildren. Mary Eleanor (Connerton) King, 87, of Atria Aquidneck Place, Portsmouth, and formerly of Newport, passed away July 3, 2015 at the Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown. She was the wife of the late John H. King, Jr. She leaves behind her children, Eileen Sandham (Peter) of Portsmouth, John King (Patricia) of Middletown, and Noreen Keas (Robert) of Ariz., five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. A celebration of her life will be recognized at Mass on Friday, July 10 at 9 a.m. at St. Lucy’s Church, Middletown. John J. Maher, 72, formerly of Portsmouth, passed away May 17, 2015 at home in Calif. He leaves behind his wife Rosalie R. Stoakes Maher, a daughter and son, and seven grandchildren. He was the Executive Director of the James L. Maher Center from 1977 until he retired in 2010. Calling hours will be Friday, July 10, from 4 – 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 11, from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Connors Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held July 11 at 4 p.m. in the funeral home.

Manuel Medeiros Jr., 86, of Middletown, passed away July 4, 2015 at Grand Islander Nursing Center, Middletown. He was the husband of the late Laura Rose Medeiros. He leaves behind his daughters, Barbara Dunn (Barry) of Middletown and Joanne Cappuccilli (Jack) of Mass., four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Thursday, July 9, from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on July 10 at St. Lucy’s Church, Middletown. Barbara Ann Miller, 76, of Middletown, passed away July 3, 2015 at Newport Hospital. She leaves behind her husband, Phillip Miller; son, Ronald; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday, July 11, from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at CrossPoint Church with a funeral service following at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to a reception at the church after the service. Keith Charles Parker, 56, of Middletown, passed away July 1, 2015 at Newport Hospital. He leaves behind his son, Craig Mulvey, of Newport. Services will be held at a later date.

Shirley Ruth (Moreau) Saulnier, 80, of Newport, passed away on July 1, 2015. She was the wife of the late Jeremiah J. Saulnier. She leaves behind three children and four grandchildren. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
